Mayan word mexico & Guatemala  (12 days - 11 nights)

DAY 01 MEXICO CITY
Arrival to Mexico City International Airport and transfer to the hotel.
Overnight .

DAY 02 HALF DAY CITY TOUR & MUSEUM
Beakfast at hotel.
Guided visit including the most important buildings in the historical centre located around the " The Zocalo", the Cathedral, National Palace, to admire the famous murals of Diego Rivera. Continue to the modern part of the City, ending at the Anthropology Museum (closed on Mondays), one of the World's 10 best museums. Overnight.

DAY 03 HALF DAY TOUR TO THE PYRAMIDS OF TEOTIHUACAN AND THE SHRINE OF GUADALUPE
Breakfast at hotel.
Guided excursion to the famous Teotihuacán Pyramids, aprox 05 hours
excursion starting with a visit to the Virgin of Guadalupe Shrine, place of peregrination of millions of Mexicans and people from all around the world.
Continue to the north of the City, to the Teotihuacán Pyramids, where we will visit the Sun and the Moon Pyramids, the Quetzalcoatl Temple and the fortresses.Free time - for those who like to climb to the top of the Pyramids (on their own risk!). Overnight.

DAY 04 MEXICO CITY - TUXTLA GUTIERREZ - SAN CRISTOBAL DE LAS CASAS
Breakfast at hotel.
Departure transfer from hotel to the airport to check in flight boud to Tuxtla Gutierrez, capital city of the state of Chiapas. Upon arrival, meet and transfer to amazing Sumidero Canyon. The locals named the great gorge "el Sumidero " (the drain or sink) because they thought the Grijalva River, deep in the chasm, had sank into a great cavern. We will enjoy a boat ride, with 1000 meters at its highest point.We will continue passing through Chiapa de Corzo on our way to San Cristobal de las Casas.Lunch included in route.Overnight .

DAY 05 SAN CRISTOBAL DE LAS CASAS - NATIVE COMMUNITIES
American breakfast at hotel.
Morning city tour of San Cristobal de las Casas and to the indian Villages of San Juan Chamula &Zinacantan, the complex ethnic composition of Chiapas is reflected in the indigenous communities with a rich variety of customs and beliefs which are expressed in festivals of both pagan and christian origin, full of mysticism and magic. Lunch included. Overnight.

DAY 06 SAN CRISTOBAL DE LAS CASAS - AGUA AZUL - PALENQUE
American breakfast at hotel.
We will leave to Agua Azul waterfalls to admire their turquoise colored waters. According to Mayan legend,Kaprakan, a character from the Popol Vuh (the sacred book of the Maya) built some steps in the mountain so he could more easily climb it. Chac (the rain god), mocking him for his arrogance, laid down a blue carpet(Aqua Azul) which moved as soon as the giant stepped on it. Possibility of swimming if time permits it. Boxlunch included.Afterwards we will continue to Palenque. Overnight .

DAY 07 PALENQUE - ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE
American breakfast at hotel.
Visit to the archaeological zone of Palenque, surrounded by jungle and one of the prime and most important sites of the Mayan World. Inside the pyramid of the Inscriptions, King Pakal's sarcophagus and its fascinating carved gravestone were found. Lunch included.Afternoon free. Overnight.

DAY 08 PALENQUE - BONAMPAK - YAXCHILAN - CROSS GUATEMALA BORDER TO FLORES
Very early departure from Palenque, box breakfast in route, to visit first Bonampak, near the Lacanha river, in the middle of thick jungle are the remains of a sixth century A.D. Mayan city, which has world renowned mural paintings. In a rectangular building with three rooms, Mayan artists left testimony to the religious and political life of the community on the walls and vaults. There are frescoes in a group of high quality colorful paintings representing rituals and scenes from war. Continuation mainly on a boat to Yaxchilan, located in the heart of the Lacandona jungle, on the riverbank of the Usumacinta, which impresses the visitor for its virtually unexplored beauty. Its architecture is that of long buildings formed by multiple corridors with temples ending in geometrical crests. It has surprising ornamentation in its richly carved thresholds, niches with stone carved sculptures and altars, steles and stairs with low relief's. Among the most interesting buildings arte: The temple of the four thresholds, the palace of the seven chambers, the stairs with images of the ball game court and the labyrinth. Lunch included.
We will continue to cross the border with Guatemala in Bethel and continue to arrive in Flores. Overnight.

DAY 09 FLORES - TIKAL - GUATEMALA CITY
Breakfast at hotel.
The majesty of the Mayan ruins at Tikal is striking. The winding, mossy jungle paths open up to a surreal world of pyramids and temples, where howler monkeys, frogs and birds like toucans create a cacophonous crescendo. Tikal has a number of step pyramids whose forty-four or so metres you can climb to gain a view across the jungle canopy. From the maze of courtyards of the Great Plaza, temples spread out into the jungle including the Temple of the Grand Jaguar, and the North Acropolis of King Moon Double Comb. The Mayans
settled in Tikal around 700 BC and had started to build the grand North Acropolis by 200 BC. By the time of Christ, the Grand Plaza was being built from stone, but it wasn't until AD 250 that Tikal became a religious and cultural centre. It reached its glory under King Great Jaguar Paw in AD 300 and underwent a renaissance around AD 700 under King Moon Double Comb, before falling into a mysterious decline, like other Mayancentres, around AD 900.
Afternoon transfer to Flores airport to catch the flight towards Guatemala City.
Arrival and transfer to Hotel.Overnight.

DAY 10 GUATEMALA CITY - ATITLAN LAKE - PANAJACHEL
Breakfast at hotel.
Departure to Atitlan Lake, Panajachel, boat trip to reach one of the 12 communities located by the shore of the lake, Tzutuhil de Santiago Atitlán. This town is famous for all the Mayan traditions preserved up to this date. The market also offers a great variety of fruits and vegetables.At a convenient time, you will take a boat trip that will lead you to Panajachel. Overnight.

DAY 11 PANAJACHEL - CHICHICASTENANGO - ANTIGUA
Breakfast at hotel.
Departure to the Altiplano going through farming until reaching the famous Indian market of Chichicastenango(only Thursdays and Sundays), which has changed as time goes by, Textiles, Carved wooden masks and ceramic are some of the things that can be found at a great value. Santo Tomas church shows a combination of traditional Catholicism and ancestral Maya religion. After that, you tour will continue to Antigua Guatemala,which is a Colonial City by the UNESCO since 1979. Tour around the city and drop off at hotel .Overnight.

DAY 12 ANTIGUA - Departure transfer Guatemala airport.
Breakfast at hotel.
Departure transfer to Guatemala airport.
